All day long, the red tractor worked on the farm.
Brrrm, brrrm, went the tractor, up and down the field. It pulled the plough. It carried the hay. It gave the farmer's little girl a ride.
Now the sun was getting low, and the tractor was tired.
"Time to slow down," said the farmer.
The tractor went brrrm, a bit more slowly.
It rolled past the barn, and the barn said, "Goodnight."
It rolled past the fence, and the fence said, "Goodnight."
It rolled past the cows, who were lying in the grass, and the cows said, "Moo," which means goodnight, too.
The tractor rolled to its place beside the big barn door. It stopped, with a little sigh. Pssshhh.
The farmer patted the tractor's big front wheel. "Thank you for today," she said.
The tractor's engine went quiet. Its lights went dim. The wheels settled into the soft grass.
Above the barn, the first star came out and twinkled.
"Goodnight, busy tractor," whispered the little girl at the window.
And all was still on the farm, and the tractor slept until morning.
