It rained all afternoon, and when it stopped, there was a puddle.
It was a big puddle, the biggest puddle Pip the duckling had ever seen.
Pip waddled up to the edge. Splish. His little orange feet got wet, and he liked it.
Next to the puddle lay a big green leaf. It had fallen from the maple tree. It looked just like a boat.
"I will sail," said Pip.
He climbed onto the leaf. It wobbled, and then it was steady. Off he went, across the puddle, very slowly.
The puddle had a sky in it. Pip floated right across the clouds. Drip, said a branch above him. Drip, drip.
A worm came out to say hello. "Hello, Pip," said the worm. "Where are you going?"
"Across the sky," said Pip.
"That is a long way," said the worm.
"I do not mind," said Pip. "I am in no hurry."
He drifted all the way to the other side. The leaf bumped the grass, softly, bump.
Pip stepped off. He shook his feathers. Shake, shake, shake.
Mama Duck was waiting, warm and fluffy. "Did you have a good trip?" she asked.
Pip nodded, and yawned, and tucked his head against her side.
The puddle grew quiet. The stars came out, and Pip went to sleep.
