Chug-a-chug, chug-a-chug, went the little blue train.
All day, the little train hurried. She hurried over the bridge. She hurried through the tunnel. She hurried past the fields and the farms and the town.
"Faster, faster," she said.
But now it was evening, and the sky was turning pink.
"Little train," said the signal light, "you can slow down now."
"Slow down?" said the little train. She had never tried.
Chug-a-chug, she went, a bit slower.
Chug... a... chug.
She noticed things she had never noticed. A deer in the field, looking up. A little house with a light in the window. The first star, shining.
Chug... a... chug... a... chug.
The station was ahead. The stationmaster waved a small green lantern.
The little train rolled in, slow and smooth, and came to a gentle stop. Hsss, went her wheels.
"Well done," said the stationmaster.
The little train felt warm all over, and her engine hummed a low, sleepy hum.
"Slow is nice," she whispered.
And she closed her headlight, and slept.
